SELF-CARE FOR TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT SYNDROME

The jaw is one of the most common places for stress-related tension to build up.

Often people with TMJ are holding on to lots of jaw and stress related tension. Examples include:

  • gripping all through the jaw, neck and shoulder area
  • gripping the jaw during sleep
  • holding themselves up when balance or posture is "off"

What does Alexander Technique have to offer people with TMJ?
People can use the Alexander Technique to reduce habitual jaw tension and gripping by using natural supports that we all posess (but aren't necessarily using.)

This is a gradual process of observing and identifying habitually high tension levels in everyday activities and replacing them with patterns of support and ease.

    If you experience ...

  • high levels of stress
  • poor posture
  • awkward coordination
  • ingrained habits that you would like to change
you can use the Alexander Technique to observe patterns of movement that build up jaw tension and learn to reduce the tension in everyday movements.
